Soft tissue therapy

Soft tissue therapy aims to losen tight and tender muscles through a variety of techniques which include instrument assisted techniques, manual release techniques, and ischemic compression.
Manual release technique and ischemic compression are hands on techniques for soft tissue therapy and are done by applying pressure to the affected tissues. Instrument assisted techniques used soft tissue tools to release those same tissues, typically less pressure is used.
Joint mobilizations and manipulation

Joint mobilizations and manipulations are used to gets joints in the body moving and return their range of motion.

Mobilizations are slower and repeated maneuvers applied to the joints. They can be done to the spine or other joints of the body.

Manipulations are quicker maneuvers applied to the joints of the body and typically result in the "popping" or "cracking" associated with chiropractic care.
If there is increased risk due to individual factors manipulations may not be part of the treatment plan, in which case mobilizations can be used.
Acupuncture and Cupping

Acupuncture and cupping are techniques used in traditional chinese medicine and more often as an adjunct to therapy in Western allied health professions.

Acupuncture can be used along meridians of the body to balance out function and impove health. It is also used to help with muscular and joint sprain and strains, tendonitis, nerve and disc injuries, and headaches. In this technique the skin barrier is broken by small sterile needles which stay in place for 15-30 minutes.

Cupping uses suction to tent the skin and superficial layers of tissue in an area. It works very well for muscular sprains and strains, as well as on the fascia.
Ultrasound and Laser

Ultrasound used vibration and sound to apply heat to an area which can aid in the heeling of tissues like tendons, ligaments and muscles.

Laser therapy used light applied at a specific frequency to help heel tissues like ligaments, cartilage, nerves, and tendons. It acts on the mitochondria (the power houses of the cell).
Exercises and Lifestyle education

Properly applied exercises (strengthening, stretching, mobility, and cardiovascular) is a very powerful tool for taking control of pain and injuries both chronic and acute. With every care plan comes an individualized program which can be modified and added to as needed, to fit your goals and help you recover.

Lifestyle and diet factors can play a large roll in chronic injury and pain. Education on these factors will be addressed throughout treatment. Referrals may be made to more specialized services if needed.
